JODELLE

Bio:

Jodelle has honed in on his own personal style of movement, artwithin: a self-expressive, individualistic movement that combines unordinary elements to expose artistry within the abnormal. He took his formal training at Swindon Dance Academy for four years where he trained in the foundations of a variety of dance genres. His unique performance stems from a fusion of styles and influences: Contemporary, Experimental, Jazz and Krump and his own personal interests and inspirations. Highly recognised within the dance industry as one of the UK’s most exciting new talents, Jodelle has a passion to create his own work and embrace opportunities for artistic growth. Most recently he was the winner of the Street Dance category in BBC Young Dancer where he performed his solo pieces at the renowned Saddlers Wells Theatre in London. Jodelle’s artistic vision combined with his unique look and talent has propelled him into the fashion and beauty industry, where he has featured in campaigns for brands including: Lee Jeans, Rimmel, ASOS, Puma and V05. Jodelle is currently exploring his solo projects which draws inspiration from the dark, corrupt and bleak, it seeks to transform these aspects through visuals and movement. Encouraging self expression and a form of unconventional beauty within society and culture.

Bio:

Naomi’s powerful persona and unique interpretation of movement inspired by popping demands your attention. Bold yet feminine, Naomi’s distinctive style creates impactful performances. As an original member of Jukebox Collective, Naomi has trained extensively in all street dance styles, gaining professional experience from a young age. She has honed in on popping as her niche, both commercially, artistically and on the underground dance scene. Naomi’s creativity spans dance and other visual art forms which together inspire her movement and innovative approach to her artistry. Her versatility and engaging character have created the opportunities to work, perform and battle internationally. Most recently Naomi featured as a principle dancer alongside Cara Delivigne for the Rimmel London TVC and music video with Nadia Rose. Currently Naomi is developing and exploring story-telling through a research and development stage to create solo work for theatre.

TAYLA

Bio:

Over the years, Tayla has developed her own unique dance style, bringing a current soulful touch to 90’s hip hop. Dance for Tayla is a platform to express and explore all her different influences, from contemporary to street dance. Tayla has trained at Jukebox Studios since a young age, and is entering her second year of professional development at Jukebox Performing Arts Academy. The majority of Tayla’s work is routed in theatre and performing at arts events across Europe. Her individual look has also seen her modelling at London Fashion week and for editorials with fashion brands. A clear focus for Tayla is the overall creative process, delving into art direction and production. With strong leadership and initiative on all aspects of performance work, she is currently devising her own theatre work, and has also been accepted into Middlesex University to formally study Dance Performance.

SHARIFA

Bio:

Defying stereotypes and championing a powerful message of independence, Sharifa’s artistry experiments with hip hop and hyper mobility, a mix that takes a weird but wonderful position on movement. Sharifa is the embodiment of an artist who connects, with a soulful style that radiates with a fearless energy. Taking inspiration from her african roots and love of hip hop culture, she’s crafted a recognisable approach to dance that is distinctively hers. Movement is just one of the vehicles Sharifa uses to explore and express her identity. With a background in drama and a skill-set spanning from dance to presenting, acting and modelling, her artistry is cross-platform. She was most recently selected among a niche of global talents for Gucci’s pre-fall ‘soul-scene’ campaign, featuring an all black-model cast and inspired by black youth movements all over the world. Currently Sharifa is developing bodies of work that empower women and explore the nuances of being a black female artist today.

KIERAN

Bio:

With the ability to channel his playful nature into captivating performance, Kieran excites audiences with his fresh approach to circus and hip hop dance. As one of the UK’s top hip hop and lite feet dancers, Kieran has a strong, credible presence on the underground battle scene internationally, representing dance crew Fiya House and “Jam!” dance collective. Most recently Kieran has co-founded Simple Cypher – a Circus and Hip Hop Theatre Company. Kieran’s style is routed in hip hop, where his musicality and charm have shaped his artistic career in theatre and on screen. This combined with his unique Cyr wheel skills has successfully created a one of a kind act.

Inspired by the 80’s era, Jerry’s style gives you acrobatics meets funk. A fusion that creates explosive, original performances. Jerry’s intensive street dance training and classical background has equipped her with a surprisingly vast list of talents spanning from tumbling to tap. Her diverse skill set includes: gymnastics, locking, popping, waacking, hip hop, tap and ballet. A young up and coming personality, Jerry’s contagious energy is also captured online through her vlogs and passion for presenting. Currently her artistic development is focused on nurturing collaboration as well as her own unique artistic vision and brand.

HARRY

Bio:

Funk is at the core of Harry’s classic style. A charismatic, energetic performer that’ll take you right back to the soul train era. An acclaimed talent in the popping scene, Harry has gained a credible reputation as one of the UK’s top poppers. With a vast repertoire from puppetry to robot, he’s able to create animated and versatile characters. Although specialised in funk styles: locking and popping, Harry has trained in a variety of dance styles including house, hip hop and breaking. Winner of BBC Young Dancer, his professional experience spans theatre and entertainment having performed internationally at renowned events and appeared as a finalist on a variety of talent series. Currently Harry is working on his individual performance pieces.

KATE MORRIS

Bio:

Kate’s style is an abstract fusion of influences inspired by puppetry and storytelling. Her unique movement has evolved from her foundation in popping creating a distinctive expression across a diverse mix of dance genres. An original member of Jukebox Collective, Kate was a core member of Jukebox Juniors dance act, which toured internationally and provided a platform for her to work with brands, theatre, corporate and commercially. The variety of work opportunities has shaped Kate’s vision and her international appeal. Although only 18 years old, Kate has gained a credible reputation on the underground dance scene and most recently was a finalist on BBC Young Dancer. Kate’s artistic development is now focused on her solo theatre work, exploring acting and working on delivering choreography on multiple platforms.

DISJOINTED

Disjointed was commissioned by Circus Space as a Research and Development project. Taking inspiration from the work of fashion photographer Tim Walker, the performance piece explores fusing the sharp, cutting edge theatrical aesthetic of high fashion within magical installation environments. The piece features talent Sharifa Tonkmore, Jodelle Douglas and Kate Morris. Directed by Liara Barussi, set design by Philip Cooper and choreographed collaboratively with the cast.

BREAKIN’ THE BAY

Breakin’ the Bay is Cardiff’s very own annual international celebration of hip-hop culture, staging two days of showcases featuring all elements of hip-hop, breakin’, street dance, deejaying, emceeing, graffiti art and more. Liara Barussi curates and hosts the event annually in partnership with the young people she has mentored in event management.

BO SARIS THE ADDICT

Directed and Animated by Tim Fox, the video is a psychedelic creation, using animation and motion tracking to create Bo into a rigged character. Liara Barussi collaborated with the artist and director to bring the movement to life.

MINISTRY OF SOUND

TV Commercial for the album, Gotta Have House by Ministry of Sound which showcased house music through the decades. Working with eclectic house dancer Fritz from Azari & III, Liara Barussi collaborated with Monument Media as the movement director.

KYGO

CLOUD NINE

TV Commercial for the album Cloud Nine, by Kygo Monument Media created custom visuals for the latest Kygo campaign, Cloud Nine. Heavily rotated on Radio 1 and credited as the creator of “Tropical House”. The TV Commercial builds to a crescendo of colour and paint explosions in sync with the music. Jukebox Creative Agency cast the talent and assisted to direct movement for the visuals.

PUMEZA THULU BABA

Movement direction and casting for South African Opera singer, Pumeza’s music video Thulu Baba, directed by Monument Media. Shot on location in a crumbling chapel in Peckham, South London, with a giant CGI baobab tree. Jukebox Collective Creative Agency delivered movement direction to create energetic African dancing which when slowed down, echoed a delicate ballet, fitting this beautiful song perfectly. The music video also featured up and coming talent Joel Bertram, one of the Jukebox Performing Arts Academy students.

GRANDMASTER FLASH

In collaboration with Monument Media this commercial was the third instalment for Sony Music The Collection series. Grandmaster Flash was placed in a stylised, CGI rendered, New York environment.

Bo Saris is a soul singer based in Holland but making a big splash in the UK and USA. Liara Barussi worked with Director Tim Fox to cast a mysterious silhouetted female for this part music video, part James Bond title sequence.

S4C : TAG

A live magazine show – covering sports, fashion, film, dance, music, and more. Jukebox Creative Agency provide raw talent to feature on the weekly show and also cast young performers for the opening titles.

ROALD DAHL’S

CITY OF THE UNEXPECTED

A magical celebration of the spirit of Roald Dahl, created on the streets of the city that made him. Cardiff’s biggest ever arts event, showcasing to over 35,000 people: Roald Dahl’s City of the Unexpected, was a remarkable celebration of the master storyteller’s life and work on the 100th anniversary of his birth in the Welsh capital. Liara Barussi created an immersive site specific dance piece for the centre of the city with the Jukebox Performing Arts Academy students. The celebration was presented in collaboration with Wales Millennium Centre and National Theatre Wales.

GOT TO DANCE

In 2010, Jukebox Juniors were finalists on Sky1’s most popular dance series Got to Dance. They were invited back on the show the following year to provide entertainment during the competition finals.

YOUNG DANCER

The BBC Young Dancer competition showcases the best of young British dance talent. The 2015 edition followed a nine month search to find the UK’s most gifted and dedicated dancers aged 16-20 years old in four categories; ballet, contemporary, street dance and South Asian dance. Jukebox Collective Artistic Director, Liara Barussi, was the Judge and mentor for the street dance category in 2015 and the company’s Creative Agency also provided dancers for the opening titles. For the 2017 series Liara worked with finalists Jodelle Douglas and Kate Morris on their performances.

NIGHT AT THE CASABLANCA

Through a series of stories with live music, Night at the Casablanca – Tiger Bay through Music, brought the renowned Club Casablanca back to life in a celebration of a vibrant musical legacy of this remarkable local community. This Wales Millennium Centre Community Production was part of their 10th anniversary programme, presented in association with Lloyds Bank. Jukebox Collective worked in collaboration with the producers, supplying performers, choreography and movement direction.
